Essential Service Employer Award

The Award
This award recognizes and honours the meaningful contributions of employers who went above and beyond to support the mental health needs of their employees while remaining open as an essential service during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

This can be interpreted broadly to include any act that improves individual or collective mental health and/or spirit.

Examples of an Essential Service Employer may include first responders, grocery store operators, pharmacy, public transit, warehouses, delivery and courier services, shipping companies or any business/organization deemed essential by their respective provincial government or local public health unit.

This award is open to all Canadian-based employers deemed essential during the COVID-19 pandemic who have made efforts to protect the mental health of their employees. 

Programs, stand-alone acts and special initiatives are eligible for consideration. 

For-profit as well as public service and non-profit businesses/organizations are eligible.

Nominations can be made by employers themselves as well as employees impacted by the employer’s commitment to mental health. Business partners and community leaders affiliated with the employer can also submit a nomination.

We are asking nominators to submit their nomination through our online form by September 15, 2021. The 250 to 500-word summary should touch on the eligibility criteria and illustrate why you feel that the nominee should win this award. The summaries will be reviewed by the selection committee. 

Additionally, nominations can include up to two testimonials and a letter of support from a community leader.

All recipients will be celebrated at our Pandemic Heroes – Standing Up for Mental Health Gala on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at the OMNI King Edward Hotel in Toronto, Ont.
